What is a Solar Eclipse and how often do they occur?
A solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun. As a result, it obscures the view of the sun from Earth. An eclipse can occur every six months, especially during the eclipse season and the moon phase. It is important to remember that a solar eclipse does not occur every time there is a new moon phase. This is because the moon’s orbit is only tilted 5 degrees. Because of this, the moon’s shadow passes above or below the Earth and we can not see it.
What are the different types of Solar Eclipse?
- Total Eclipse
- When the disk of the sun is fully obscured by the moon
- Partial Eclipse
- when only a part of the sun is obscured
- the moon takes only a bit of the sun
- Annular eclipse
- when the moon is centered in front of the sun
- there is a ring of fire that shines around the sun
- Hybrid Eclipse
- rarest solar eclipse
- when the moon’s shadow moves across the earth
