India Reports First Mpox Case. The first case of Mpox has been detected in India. According to the government of India, there is currently only one case, a “travel-related infection”. This means that the infected person recently traveled to a country impacted by the Mpox outbreak. Moreover, on August 14, the World Health Organization declared the recent outbreak of Mpox as easily spread through contact. Furthermore, the government of India has confirmed that the infected person is currently isolated. In addition, the travel is stable. Moreover, the Ministry of Health has assured the public that there is no current risk of Mpox spreading in India.
What Does the Health Ministry Say about India’s First Mpox Case
According to the Ministry of Health, “The previously suspected case of Mpox has been verified as a travel-related infection. Laboratory testing has confirmed the presence of the Mpox virus of West African clade 2 in the patient. This case is an isolated case, similar to the earlier 30 cases reported in India from July 2022 onwards, and is not a part of the current public health emergency (reported by WHO) which is regarding clade 1 of Mpox”.

In addition, “The patient remains clinically stable and is without any systemic illness or comorbidities”.
Is Mpox Spreading to Other Countries?
Yes, according to the WHO, there are over 120 countries that have cases of Mpox. In addition, there have been over 220 deaths as a result.
